Ball in High Heather
When a player's ball enters the long grass (high heather) which borders the fairway and the ball is found,
the player shall have three options for play:
1. play it as it lies,
2. drop a ball at the nearest point of relief outside the long grass not nearer to the hole at the point
where the ball crossed the margin of high heather (one stroke penalty),
3. play the ball as close as possible from the previous shot position (one stroke penalty).
4. Player also has the option to declare "ball unplayable" at which point you have three options:
"The player may declare his ball unplayable at any place on the course except when the ball is in a water hazard.
The player is the sole judge as to whether his ball is unplayable."
After taking a 1-stroke penalty, the three options for proceeding are to
1. return to the spot of the previous stroke and play again; or
2. drop within two club lengths, not nearer the hole; or
3. drop behind the spot, going back as far as you want, keeping the original spot between the hole and the spot
where the ball is dropped.
Lost ball in heather
If the ball in long grass is not found, the foursome will agree to the point at which the ball crossed the boundary line of long grass.
(one stroke penalty) The ball shall be dropped at a point of nearest relief from that boundary line not nearer to the hole. If no point can be established then the player must re-tee.
